Perfectly Pickled Pucker Bowl

There's more to pickle than pickles! For 2022 we are going beyond the classic cucumbers and the challenge is on for perfectly pickled vegetables! Think of vegetables like amazing asparagus, beautiful beets and bell peppers, crazy cauliflower, chewy carrots, grand green beans, marvelous mushrooms, spectacular squash, and the list goes on and on! Choose the vegetable, perfectly pickle it, enter the contest and YOU may be the winner of $5000!
To enter Frank's Piggly Wiggly Perfectly Pickles Pucker Bowl you must be between the ages of 9 and 17 years old, team up with an adult 18+!



WHO: This contest is open to generational teams (“team”). A team consists of ONE adult (over 18 years old as of 01/01/2022) and ONE youth (Age 9-17 years old as of 01/01/2022). Cash prize will be awarded in the form of a check solely payable to YOUTH contest winner.

WHAT: Homemade Canned Pickled Vegetables. One entry consists of two (2) jars. One entry per team. All entries must be made by the team.

WHEN: Judging is on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 3:00 PM CST.

WHERE: Walworth County Fair, North Hall, Home Economics Building.

COST: FREE to enter contest.

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED: Teams wishing to have their entry considered must completely fill out the registration form and submit it online, or mail to:

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: August 27, 2022 at 5:00 PM CST (no exceptions).

BRING YOUR VEGETABLES … ENTRY DROP-OFF DATES AND TIMES: Teams must drop off their entries on the following dates and times:

  • Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 8:00 AM - 2PM CST.
  • Sunday, August 28, 2022 from Noon - 5:00 PM CST.

NO late drop offs allowed, must be present to win.

All registered youth will receive one FREE admission ticket to the 2021 Walworth County Fair when their completed entry is dropped off.

Adult participant (over 18)


Youth participant (age 9-17)

  • This is a competition for amateurs (one who cans for personal reasons, with no monetary compensation from any related source). Commercial enterprises or businesses are not eligible to enter.
  • Four photographs of child participating in the vegetable pickle making process.
  • Canned by USDA Standards.
  • Jars:
    • May be pint or quart size.
    • Must be colorless.
    • Decorations are not allowed.
  • Jars must be labeled with the following information included:
    • Date of processing.
    • Processing method.
    • Amount of time to process.
  • Written recipe must accompany the entry.
  • Pickling vegetables may be purchased or homegrown.
  • No pickles and or cucumbers allowed.
  • No use of alcohol may be used in the pickling process
  • Any jar may be opened for judging.
  • Upon submission, all recipes become the property of the Walworth County Fair, which has the right to publish, promote and/or advertise the recipes and the name of the contestant and photos without compensation.
  • Winning pickled vegetables become the property of the Walworth County Fair.
  • Judging criteria for entries:
    • Written recipe.
    • Jar labeling.
    • Following USDA guidelines.
    • Consistency.
    • Uniformity of size.
    • Color.
    • Package.
    • Taste / flavor.
  • One entry will be selected as the contest winner. The decision of the judge(s) will be final.
One Frank’s Piggly Wiggly Perfectly Pickled Puckerbowl cash prize will be awarded in the form of a check solely payable to YOUTH contest winner.
